It's OK Thursday

This morning after I said goodbye to Daddy Goose & Brother and rushed back in and ran to my favorite morning machine - my Keurig!  I thought to myself, wow, I am addicted this morning ritual.  (I'm sure plenty of you feel the same way about coffee.)  I started thinking to myself...what else am I addicted to? Some addictions are bad, but some are OK!  Here are a few others of mine...

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK that...

...I'm addicted to hot coffee in the morning.

...I'm addicted to my slippers.

...I'm addicted to fires in my wood stove.

...I'm addicted to Pinterest! (Let's face it, every other social media as well!)

...I'm addicted to hugs and kisses from my goslings!

...I'm addicted to seeing Daddy Goose walk through the door.

...I'm addicted to my addictions!

What's OK with you today?

A thought...

I've recently been at "war" with Brother-in-Law Goose.  Not the gossipy, never gonna talk to you again kind of war, but the healthy, share your opinion kind.  I'm sure this war is raging all across America - it's the Presidential campaign!

I've always had my views on the "hot topics" of politics and I'm not generally afraid to voice my opinion about them.  I try to listen to, read and take advice from all parties, Democrat, Republican, Independent and the Tea Party, to make sure that I'm well informed of the issues before I make my opinion.

I won't share with you who is a Democrat or Republican, but know that we are equally passionate about our views.  This is, in my 10+ years in the Goose family, that we have ever gotten so deeply into the election issues and I think it is because, according to my brother-in-law, one of the most important elections in a long time.  One that is leading him to the poles after a leave of absence from voting.

Which got me to thinking...
  • Why do people get so passionate about politics?
  • Does this election really mean as much or as little as the past or future elections?
  • Will our next President fulfill campaign promises or are they just this year's election platforms?
  • Who am I going to vote for?
  • Does my one vote really matter?
I will admit, I've really been enjoying the redderick with my brother-in-law.  Every couple of days he texts me or brings up a new fact about his side of the issue.  Even though we are on two very different sides of the fence, this has brought us to a different relationship - soldiers in the politics war. While we fight for different sides, we both are fighting for what we believe in and that bond is unbreakable.

What are your thoughts?

A thought...

After almost a week of beautiful weather, the clouds have turned gray and the rain is falling on our campsite. It started this morning around 6:30 and has been on and off since. It is barely enough to make your hair wet, but just the enough to allow for the wonderful aroma of wet wilderness.

Some people would be miserable in these conditions. But these four geese love it! Well...come to think of it, I bet geese in the wild love these conditions, so I guess its not that surprising.

Which got me thinking...What are some of our favorite activities for rainy day schedule?

We build a fort in the living room.

We bake cookies.

We have an indoor beach day, hanging out in the bath tub in our bathing suits.

We play on the back covered patio, while watching and listening to the rain.

We pop a big bowl of popcorn and drink hot chocolate and watch a movie.

But...today our options are limited. So what are we doing?

Brother Goose is racing and spinning donuts with his remote control car,  Baby Goose and I are hanging under the "Easy-Up" watching the race, we are listening and singing along to our favorite tunes while Daddy Goose is keeping a fire going. Don't worry...we have the popcorn and hot cocoa!

Its days like these that are hard to come by at home. No distractions from work, school, bills, household chores, etc, etc, etc.

What do you do on a rainy day schedule??

A thought...

It is 1:00 a.m. and I am still awake...again!  For the past few weeks, Daddy Goose and I have been staying up way too late.  Apparently, we are on a vacation schedule.  1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m. and even 4:00 a.m. the other night.  Well, technically, it was the other morning, but lets not get technical at such a crazy hour of the day/night.  For some reason I keep putting myself through this torture.

What is wrong with me? It's not like Daddy Goose and I are up doing something productive. We watch our favorite DVR'd programs, we pause said shows 1500 times to discuss the crazy things that happened during the day or we play slot machine games on our phones while cuddling next to each other on the couch and celebrating each others' big "wins." (Don't worry it isn't for real money.)

Yet, we can't seem to get all of this productivity accomplished prior to the date changing on the calendar.  Part of it is Daddy Goose's late work schedule and part of it is that we lose track of time when we are together.  The latter, is a great problem to have after being together as long as we have...so no complaints about that here.

Here's the thing, my goslings do not care what time I go to sleep.  They will be up between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  They will be ready for the day, regardless of my alertness.  Never in a million, zillion years did I think I'd be one of those people who's first thought as they step out of bed is about coffee.  Yet, here I am in my mid-30s and I am that person.  Daddy Goose and I are like zombies getting out of bed, risen by our goslings or the blaring alarm clock.  I'm sure mornings are a sight.  In fact, one of Brother Goose's favorite activities is to "push" Daddy Goose out of bed in the morning.

Which got me thinking...
  • When will I learn that 10:00 p.m. is a better bedtime for me?
  • Will staying up this late end up causing long term problems for me? How will I know? Will I be too tired to realize the problems?
  • How do I train myself to go to bed earlier?  By the way...that was sort of a rhetorical question, I know the science behind going to be earlier.
  • I guess the better question is not how to train myself to go to bed earlier, but when will I train myself to go to bed earlier?
What are your thoughts?

Its Ok Thursdays

Its OK that...

I stay up way to late with Daddy Goose.
I bought Brother Goose an umbrella in July.
I am going to bed (at some point) with dirty dishes in my sink.
Baby Goose ate her dinner wearing only a diaper...it was hot today!
Coffee is one of the first thoughts on my mind in the morning.

Inspiration for a Busy Week & Tired Momma!

Wow, has this been a busy week.  Each morning we've been to Parables in the Park (aka: vacation Bible school) and swim lessons.  We've really enjoyed the time with our friends at Parables and swim lessons with Miss Jenny.  The scheduled morning leaves naps and chores to do in the afternoon.   Its been very busy for Daddy Goose too, he hasn't gotten home from work before 10:00 p.m.  The great news is, we don't have much planned for the weekend so we can spend some quality family time together.

It's these kind of crazy weeks that sometimes get me and other mommas alike feeling a little down on themselves, a little envious of others and a little incompetent. I don't know why, but I'm always amazed how God puts certain people in your life at just the right time! I subscribe to a blog called, "The Gypsy Mama." (I've participated in her Five Minute Friday free write sessions a couple of times.) She is a well traveled mom of three with an amazingly REAL  and fun view of motherhood.  Yesterday, Lisa-Jo posted "the tired mother's creed, a list of 20 "I" statements that ring true to all. My favorites are:
  • I shall not measure what I've accomplished today by the loads of unfolded laundry but by the assurance of deep love I've tickled into my kids.
  • I shall not compare myself to other mothers, but find my identity in the God who trusted me with these kids in the first place.
  • I shall model kind words – to kids and grown-ups alike.
As I was reading it my eyes filled with tears!  My kitchen has not been spotless this week, I seriously cannot find anything to wear in my closet and I am sad because we are not able to spend enough time with Daddy Goose.  And while I am not dog tired from all of our busy activities, (only because I've had a couple of really GOOD naps and a lot of coffee...shhh!) and my children have been on their best behavior - it was one of those posts that I could totally relate to and really needed!

Make sure you go to her blog and check out the rest of them.  I guarantee you'll find one that will pierce through your heart and give you the boost you need.  She's even created a free PDF that you can print.

Thank you Lisa-Jo!  I already printed my free copy and put it on my refrigerator!

A thought...

I have this sign in my kitchen window.

Recently, a good friend said to me, "You should turn your happy sign around so everyone else can read it from out here."  I replied, "No, silly.  Then I can't read it."  At the time my reaction was quick and with little thought.  Plus, I hadn't even thought to turn it the other way.

After a few days, I began to think more about my friend's comment.  "So everyone else can read it."  She meant nothing rude or mean by it.  It was just her quick thought.  Yet, how many times a day do you do something for everyone else?  As moms, we are constantly thinking of others, our goslings, our hubbies, even the cat.  Last comes momma.  (Not that we would have it any other way.)

A couple of months ago, one of my favorite brother in laws, gasped at my diaper bag and jokingly told me it was "obnoxious."  We were talking about it this past weekend and I said to him, "Well, it's a good thing I live my life for me and not you."  I was totally joking with him and again, didn't really think too hard about my comment.  I said it mostly for giggles and his reaction.  It wasn't until I thought more about my friend's comment about the happy sign that I thought twice about what I said to him.

I DO NOT think it's obnoxious, do you? :-)

We have to do what makes us happy, live our lives for us and not everyone else.  These days, it's the little things that make me happy.  Like the sign in my window that faces towards me, my "obnoxious" diaper bag, and putting my goslings and hubby's needs before my own.

What is making YOU happy these days?

A thought...

I love being a woman!  Seriously, I love being a woman.

Yesterday at the car wash I was having a hard time figuring out the self service machine.  Just as I was about to get frustrated, I caught the eye of an employee, a male employee.  He headed straight over and said, "Can I help you?" with a big smile on his face. He got the machine figured out and then politely thanked me and walked away.  After a few seconds, the crossing guard arm wasn't opening and he must have looked back to check because he came jogging back to see what was going on.  Again, he figured out the problem and away I went into the car wash.

Now, don't get me wrong there was nothing flirty about the situation nor was the man trying to "pick-up" on me or vise versa.  It was just one of those situations where I thought to myself, would he have come over if Daddy Goose was the driver?  Maybe.  Would he have been so friendly?  Maybe.  Would he have looked back to check on the issue if it wasn't me (or any other female)?  Maybe.  I hope the answer to those questions would be "Yes."  I hope the customer service at the car wash on Herndon and Blackstone is just that great, but something tells me that it may have something to do with my gender...which I am okay with, its just another perk of being a woman.

I know its a little silly and maybe even slightly old-fashion thinking, but as a woman I to:

  • Wear shiny jewelry,
  • Wear high heels,
  • Have my nails and toes painted,
  • Doors are opened for me,
  • Gas is pumped for me,
  • Even in my mid-30s, I can still call my father, "Daddy" and no one looks at me funny,
  • Be excited over the smallest things,
  • Have flowers sent to me,
  • Get quick and friendly service at the car wash.

These are just a few of the benefits!

As an HR consultant, I was always reminding managers, that gender did not matter. It has nothing to do with ability.  I whole heartily believe that statement.  My gender has nothing to do with my abilities.  It does sometimes, however, make my life a little easier and/or harder. Yesterday was one of those days that it made it easier.

What is one of the things you love about being a woman? OR What are some of the best things about being a man?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.
